What is the Haitian Teachers' Collective?

BACKGROUND
The Haitian Teachers' Collective started with a group of students from HGSE For Haiti. In our efforts to foster English language fluency and critical thinking we thought we could partner with Haitian teachers to make make a sustainable impact among the teachers and students they teach. Yet, due to UN travel restrictions, Harvard (GSE) was unable to officially sanction the trip.

This actually allowed us to expand the team, and currently we have a team comprised of students from HGSE and the College, a member of Harvard faculty, and a Boston Haitian community leader.

THE TRIP
Unable to act as official representatives of HGSE or HGSE for HAITI, we decided to move forward with independently funding and organizing the trip and workshop ourselves. Between January 12- 16th, we plan to conduct several visits to private and public schools, as well as the teachers' college located in Port-Au-Prince. We will also be conducting a weekend long teacher's training with workshops on the following topics: Critical Thinking in the Classroom (Forum); ESL Teaching Strategies, Effective Lesson Planning, and Addressing Different Learning Styles in the Classroom.

SUPPORT
The HGSE ladies who will be going are Rachelle Mathurin (IEP), Nedgine Paul (IEP), Rajwantie Sahai (IEP), Blake Lipsett (TEP), and Junia Kim (L&L). If you have questions, want to send some verbal support, or just want to wish us luck, don't hesitate to drop us a line through the comments option on this blog.
